– Why SPF doesn’t really matter and other sunscreen facts

Julia Belluz, Vox’s senior health correspondent, has become one of my most trusted resources, and this article clearly explains SPF, UVB and UVA light, and other important facts about sunscreen. (Note that Beautycounter’s sunscreens protect against both UVB and UVA rays, and they’re included on EWG’s list of Best Beach and Sport Sunscreens.)

This post from the Asterisk clearly explains how each of these product types serves a specific purpose and when to use them.

Finding safer products is easy

The Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep database is a great tool for finding safer personal care products and learning more about the products you’re already using. EWG’s annual Sunscreen Guide is especially helpful, ensuring that consumers have the latest safety information on sun protection products and ingredients.

Download EWG’s Healthy Living app, which includes ratings for more than 120,000 food and personal care products, and check out the rest of EWG’s consumer guides.

Contact me if you’d like recommendations. In addition to offering the full Beautycounter line, I can help with other products as well.
